Infertility affects 1 in 7 couples. The NHS describes infertility as the failure to conceive within a year of unprotected sexual intercourse without a medical diagnosis.  This can also include the inability to carry a baby to full term.  Infertility can be caused by a number of issues but the most prevalent are: ovulatory disorders, tubal damage, male infertility, uterine disorders.  Combined these physical factors contribute to 70% of fertility issues.  However, 30% of infertility lacks medical explanation.

It is highly probable that you will know someone that has been affected by this latter form of fertility. When you are trying to get pregnant your emotions run from hopefully to waning hope to disappointment to hope again.  This never emotional roller-coaster only becomes more intense as the months pass by.  You duly take yourself to the GP and are subjected to a series of tests in the hope that you can ‘fix’ the problem and get on with having a baby because, this is the right time.

Couple making heart shape with each others hands

You have worked hard to be financially secure; your home is suitable for raising a family, you eat healthy and keep fit. So why is this one thing alluding you?

This can cause upset, arguments, blaming, envy, loss of sexual interest, reduced productivity at work, relationship difficulties, other negative emotions and implications.  Cumulatively all of the above can cause prolonged stress and anxiety which affects our natural biorhythms.

It has been well documented that prolonged stress can lead to chronic health problems including infertility because our bodies are designed to protect us not to grow a foetus or look after a baby when it senses a threat. Consequentially, disrupting our production of hormones which hinders the process of ovulation, implementation and sperm quality.

Lifestyle choices can have an impact upon fertility. Creating a better work/life balance and reducing harmful habits can increase overall well-being.

Smoking, caffeine, excessive exercise, use of illicit substances and alcohol can all have an impact of sperm count and motility, increase chances of miscarriage and reduce conceptions.  Other emotional factors include previous traumatic events, miscarriage, dysfunctional family relationships, terminations – again the list is endless.

Empowering Support for couples

I’m going to be blunt- hypnotherapy is not a magic plaster that can make everything better.  What I can do is enable you to restore the feeling of calm, control and emotional well-being.  By reducing your anxiety and setting realistic goals you are reminded that your fertility does not define you.  We identify and build on your inner resources to help you manage the emotional journey ahead.

Fathers/non-carrying partners can be forgotten because they are not subject to medical examinations or procedures.  However, they will be playing a critical role- the supportive partner. They are also likely to experience anxiety because not only are they emotionally invested in the journey but also for the well-being of the most important person. Therefore parents to be irrespective of their role can benefit from hypnotherapy.

The first face-face consultation will be conducted with the couple. During this session, personal information is gathered, the physiology of conception, fertility and what you hope to achieve from hypnotherapy.

Subsequent sessions should be held independently as it will enable the Hypnotherapist to work with each client to because the experience of infertility will have different impact.   This will enable couples also to build on their goals and strengths without compromising self identity outside of the session.

The number of sessions required will be determined by you and not dictated by the Therapist.

Please Note: Solution focused hypnotherapy is very effective. However, results may vary and success is not guaranteed. Success is dependent on your willingness and commitment to make changes.  The *FREE initial consultation is a 15 minute telephone consultation.
